IMAGINATION SIT SPOTS – Easy to find and be in. Good for the soul!

Now more than ever, your “sit spot” should include a space where your creativity can find a home. What is a SIT SPOT? This is generally a place that you choose in nature. A place where you literally sit and regularly visit for at least 10 minutes at a time. It could be a place on your lawn or a picnic table at a nearby park. You sit there and you practice being mindful. That’s it. That’s a sit spot. Just notice whatever you want to notice in your sit spot. You can also choose a sit spot in your home. If you do, try to include a place where you feel your creativity can be sparked. Maybe your favorite poetry book is located in your home sit spot. Maybe you have a small tool box in your sit spot and it includes sketching supplies? Maybe you have an adult coloring book in you sit spot and you color for 10 minutes. Or, perhaps you’re a music lover and you have a record player in your sit spot. While you address your creativity in that special place in your home, be mindful of how it sparks acceptance or contentment. How do you feel in your creativity? Can you take your creativity outside and take part in it in nature? Even better! Sit spots are for mindfulness and creativity, in my opinion. You can find one pretty much anywhere and you can change it up as often as you like.

Art and Covid-19: Quick Tips for Just Going For It

If you want to do more art, try these 3 easy, simple steps:

  1. Don’t pressure yourself
  2. Try doing art outside (e.g. on your porch, at a park, in the backyard)
  3. Try a different or new art medium (or try using your non dominant hand so you give yourself a break and not expect perfection)

I would probably add a few more tips…
4. Be playful and nonjudgemental with yourself
5. Play 3 to 5 of your favorite songs while doing art and give yourself a time limit so it doesn’t feel so daunting. This is helpful if you are hesitant or haven’t done art in a while
